On Wednesday 2nd March, Succeed With Dyslexia are joining forces with the British Dyslexia Association to bring you a Facebook Live webinar that’s centred on something close to our hearts: the first steps on that reading journey, and interrogating whether we’re supporting UK learners adequately when it comes to developing those early reading skills.
Reading is something that comes quite naturally to many children – however when learners have literacy differences like dyslexia, the journey often becomes more complicated, and many children benefit from alternative teaching methods and a greater degree of support than neurotypical peers might. And that’s why many experts in the UK neurodiversity community are currently thinking about the Government’s policy to promote Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) as the sole method of teaching reading – and together with the BDA’s expert panellists, we’ll be exploring the topic together in detail.
Your hosts for the night include SWD’s very Julia Clouter, an experienced SENCO and our Head of Educational Services, and the BDA’s Sue Flohr, the BDA’s Head of Policy. We’ll also be hearing from Hannah Flohr, the parent of a child with dyslexia, and Helen Goodsall, the Knowledge and Information manager at the BDA. There will also be an interactive element to the webinar, where viewers are encouraged to post a question in the discussion tab before the event starts, and our experts will do their best to answer it on the night
So log on and join us for an evening of exploring the trouble with learning to read – head on over to Facebook to find out more!
