Fancy yourself a codebreaker or a spy? It’s good news if you do – because you might be just the kind of person that GCHQ are looking for (and that’s looking for in the good way, not in the ‘we wanted to speak to you in connection with a series of offences’ kind of way).
So, what makes people with dyslexia so successful at GCHQ jobs?
In a Made by Dyslexia podcast released today, Jo Cavan, a senior director of the organisation focused on how neurodiverse professionals hold the key to unravelling some of the many enigmas that make up a day’s work at GCHQ. She was joined by two of the people on her staff who have dyslexia, who chatted about how it’s the ways that they think differently that make all the difference when it comes to finding solutions, seeing the bigger picture and working toward some highly specific briefs.
GCHQ is somewhat of a destination for neurodiverse professionals at all levels of their career. Cavan explained that ‘Dyslexic Thinking Skills’ are mission critical for GCHQ at the moment, and that they’re three or four times more likely to take on neurodiverse apprentices than other apprenticeship schemes.
