The Reading Agency have been doing a lot to support people throughout the national lockdown and Covid-19 emergency in the UK. Their Reading Well campaign supports people on their journey towards better mental health and recovery by making books recommended by mental health experts accessible to readers of all ages.
Another campaign, the Reading Friends programme, is all about fighting the isolation that the pandemic has imposed and bringing people together to share stories in a virtual community.
The new Read, Talk, Share initiative is set to continue that good work.
It’s enabled by a 3.5-million-pound award by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and looks to expand on these campaigns by advocating bibliotherapy for mental health and seeking out new ways of connecting people through a shared love of stories and books.
This initiative is great news for readers of all ages, especially those who might have been suffering from isolation or low mood due to the changes that the global pandemic has necessitated to keep us all safe.
