Lizzie Acker from Liverpool spoke about her life with dyslexia and ADHD on a social media post for Dyslexia Awareness Week.
The 28-year-old car production operative is one of the twelve bakers taking on the tent this year, and she’s already impressing with her cakes and bakes, as well as her wholesome philosophy that flavour and creativity is much more important than producing a picture-perfect bake every time. She’s already impressed with many of her culinary creations, and- most importantly for us- she’s also a great example of just how amazingly creative people with dyslexia can be!
Last week, she took to her instagram account to share a post that spoke about her history with dyslexia and ADHD following the launch of the Great British Bake Off’s new seasonal cook book, A Bake for All Seasons.
“For anyone to see themselves in a book is surreal, but for me it feels super odd. I am severely dyslexic and on the ADHD spectrum. I don’t read books, so having recipes I came up with in a book is mind blowing.
“Today until the 10th of October is National Dyslexia Week. And October is ADHD awareness month. I definitely think it’s something that should be celebrated.”
And honestly? We completely agree. You can catch up with Lizzie’s culinary adventures at her Instagram @lizzieacker_, as well as live on The Great British Bake Off on BBC One.
